Joy

Dear Friends,
I wish you all the most happy, peaceful and blessed Christmas.
I have the immense joy to be with dear friends in the states. They have opened their house and hearts for me, embraced me with the warmest welcome and make me feel at ease so far away from home for this holy time of the year.

I feel blessed in many ways and I have reason to give thanks for a lot of things.

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christa the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” - Luke 2, 8-12

I hope you are also a little shocked with me and the shepherds while trying to understand the miracle from two thousand years ago. ;-) I mean shocked in the best way possible.

Till soon.
Rici.

Liebe Freunde,

Rici.

Travel ~ Munich and some unpredictable

Travel – deice in Munich, missed flight in Washington DC, Tornado in Dallas – But I made it!

For some days I was already traveling from Siena to Bolzano and then finally to Munich to see some of my family before I left for the states. I had everything planned out very nice. My flight would leave at a decent time and I would arrive at a nice evening hour. Of course, with my perfection, all went exactly not as planned.
(pic from above the ocean)
Already in Munich things were getting out of hand. We took of late, so we came into Washington late… and some geniuses could not speed up the passport check in, so that half of the eternal line from Non U.S. peps missed their connections. W e all met again in the customer service from United Airlines. Swell. Then they told me there is no flight till the morning, I could go to O`Hare in Chicago, or get a room (read: sleep in the airport) I was basically desperate. I almost started crying, because I was tired and I just wanted to be already in Oklahoma City. Due to my desperate smile and one or two tiny tears they were able to get me on another flight, or two other flights. So I started running again. To another end of the airport. I got there and the light was delayed, Tornado-Warning. Really? My mood was sinking. I had somehow no way to contact my friends in OK, my genius phone… and after some twenty minutes of eating my sandwich in silence and occasionally looking at two gentleman with I pads, I convinced myself to go over and ask them for the favor to use there internet. They totally looked like southern friendly, helpful guys and they were. That is something I really like about the southern states, they are helping you easily. So nice. So I got to speak to the two businessmen for a bit, and they told me they had more fun and jokes in half an hour with me than during all their stays in Germany. Haha. Well whenever I am nervous and I get to speak to someone, this usually makes me more relaxed and at ease. So that was cool.

On the second flight I was extremely happy about the company from a royal Dutch marine. We basically just chatted the flight away. I was now in better mood again. He missed also his connection and had instead of three flights five. So I considered myself as happy. Sorry David. ;-) The landing into Dallas was really jumpy. I never was on a plane that felt like it would bouncing up and down and I don´t want to be on one ever again. Somehow the next flight was delayed again and I started to ask myself why did I do all the traveling in the first place. I got my answer stepping of the plane in OKC. After many planes, many delays and what seemed an infinite line of airports I found my friend. She gave me a big ole long we-are-so-glad-you-are-here-in-one-piece hug. There is nothing quite as consoling as a warm welcome after an odyssey of a travel like this one. Man, it felt good to be on the ground, in the right place, maybe not the right time, but who was awake enough to care. I got here and I am glad about it.
(pic; cute little italian car in the middle of Munich)

This is for all who are travelling somewhere, be it to your home or in your heart. I wish you the most warm and blessed Christmas time!!!
(Pic from my continental flight, sooo cute!)

A presto! ;-)

~~~
A couple of days ago I had the tremendous delight to witness the „Laurea“ (declaration of Doctor) of a friend here in Siena. I met Monica as so often around here through a common friend. I really love this about Italy. It is soooo easy to meet new people. When I learned that Monica had her “Laurea” in December I told her how much I would love to take her pictures on her important day. I noticed during my first days in Bella Italia that they have quite a different tradition how to celebrate this degree and I loved it. Right during the first week I challenged myself to shoot at least one of these interesting days throughout my stay in Siena. So today I am really delighted to share these beautiful pictures with you. Monica, thank you that I was able to witness your great day! Thanks for letting me be part of it, get to meet your wonderful family and see the joy. For her big day many family members travelled to Tuscany from the very south of Italy. I really loved their warm hearted, open kindness. So great to have glimpses into their lives. Monica for your new degree I wish you all the best! Till soon.
An Italian Christmas Market
Finally! The tuscans considered it would be time to put up a Christmas market. These were two happy, enchanted days. Yes the joy was short. BUT wonderful. My favorite part was actually when they put up torches all around the Campo. On each house and on each balcony. This was quite wonderful!
 ~ ~ ~
Endlich haben die Toskaner es auch an der Zeit gehalten einen Weihnachtsmarkt zu machen. Dies waren zwei glücklicher, verzaubernde Tage. Ja die Freude war kurs, ABER wunderschön. Mein absoluter Lieblingsteil war als nach Sonnenuntergang rings um auf dem ganzen Campo Fakeln angezündet wurden. Auf jeden Haus und auf jedem Balkon. Super schööön!
Portraitsession with Felipe
I met Felipe a couple of weeks ago at a friend’s house. My roommate and I were invited from his roomy. Dinner was simple but lovely. It was one of these spontaneous occasions where you invite three friends and suddenly you have seven Spanish and one German girl in your kitchen. Quite spontaneous… like most of the things around here. : -) Oh sweet Erasmus life. However, some days ago I became aware of the fact that I did never take a portrait session with a guy. Browsing through my favorite photographers blogs I saw it was kind of a “common problem”. The more I liked the conversation with Felipe at the next night’s party. We were chatting about photography and soon it was settled we were to go out together soon and have a proper portrait session together.
Comfy things
I don´t know about you, but around this time of the year I have a rather profound love for all that is cushions, blankets and comfy stuff you can wrap yourself in after coming home. Like after a long day, from the cold or soaking wet. Ok I am exaggeration about the soaking wet, but if we were in Germany right now, it would be way realistic. Anyway, I found a really cute store in one of the tiny streets next to the Via Banchi di Sotto (Via Calzoleria). It has the all cute and vintage things with a hint of Italian style (of course) and for some time I wanted to go there and take a picture when the decoration is on, because it is simply adorable. If you are in town, check it out.
I hope you have a warm Christmas time!
Ich weiß ja nicht wie es dir geht, aber in dieser Zeit im Jahr da liebe ich meine ganzen Kissen und Decken und alles was kuschlig ist noch mehr. Besonders wenn man nach einem langen Tag aus der kälte ins Haus kommt, oder wenn man komplett durchnässt ist. Ok, das war eine Übertreibung, aber wäre ich gerade in Deutschland, wäre es nix anderes als realistisch. Wie dem auch sei, ich hab diesen absolut süßen Laden in einer der winzigen Seitengassen von Via Banchi di Sotto (Via Calzoleria) gefunden. Es ist eine dieser niedlichen Läden mit vielen Kleinigkeiten, Vintagesachen und natürlich italienischem Flair. Seit dem die Weihnachtsdeko an ist, hab ich mir immer vorgenommen dort hinzu gehen und mal endlich ein Foto zu machen. Wenn du gerade in der Stadt bist, schau mal vorbei.
Ich hoffe du hast eine kuschlige Weihnachtszeit!
Have a happy week!
Go and work…
I know, best headline ever. Haha. Well today is another Friday in our shared home in the middle of Siena. Usually we do some cleaning around this day (in pairs of two) and today one of my lovely Italian roomies is doing it all alone (we live with five girls from all over). So I went to the kitchen to help her. But as many southern Italians she won´t let me help her. They are very precise in what they want. If they want to clean alone or make you eat something, then there is surely no way around. Promise. So today my roomy said: Rici, go and work on your pics and on your blog! Haha, yeah, they really rock! I have to tell you, I have amazing roommates! So here I am, with some free time to share travel impressions with you.
Today, Firenze by night.
~~~

Geh und arbeite…

Ich weiß, Hammer Überschrift. Haha.

During the quiet hour.

I love strolls around the countryside and if there is one thing I miss from Germany that would be it. All the nice, full, green landscapes. Since Siena is more or less a middle age town, there are just very view nice green places to be found within the wall. Yes, you read right, within the wall. We have a wall all around town and I have the privilege to live within these walls. So happy. ;-)
So here are some evening impressions from a walk outside the wall.
~~~
Während einer ruhigen Stunde.
Ich liebe Spaziergänge im Grünen, auf dem Land. Wenn es etwas gibt was ich tatsächlich von Deutschland vermisse, dann die grünen, saftigen Flächen der Natur. Da Siena mehr oder weniger eine Mittelalterliche Stadt, findet man kaum Grünflächen innerhalb der Mauer. Ja ganz recht, innerhalb der Mauer. Die gesamte Innenstadt ist von einer riesigen Stadtmauer umgeben und ich habe das Privileg innerhalb der Mauer zu wohnen. ;-)
Hier sind einige Eindrücke von einem Dämmerungsspaziergang außerhalb der Mauer.
Engagement Session Quickie - B+M
Here are a couple of my totally favorite pictures from the Session quickie I captured with my friends in october, in germany. Why quickie? Well, because, I basically stole those two, newly engaged, from the last weddings party and said, ok, here is the gorgeous sunset light, we have ten minutes. Are you in? Then run to the field, I get my other lenses. So that is basically what we did. She was one of my roommates back in Germany and I wanted to give her that, as an engagement gift. As I saw the result of these short and very funny minutes I was overwhelmed by the beauty and their cute love for each other. I hope you enjoy their beauty as I do.
Ps, no worries, the normal e-session will take a bit longer ;-)
~~~

Happy Sunday!

A table, a chair, a bowl of fruit and a violin; what else does a man need to be happy?
Albert Einstein

Today is another beautiful Sunday in Tuscany. The sun was kind to come out and warm the streets and while strolling through town I found a free concert in the city theater. So I know what I will be doing tonight.
Here I have some pics from yesterday’s photo walk. I totally loved the colors of this kaki tree!
Happy Sunday to y´all!
~~~
Heute ist ein weiterer wunderschöner Sonntag in der Toskana. Die Sonne war gut gestimmt und hat wieder die Straßen gewärmt. Während ich so durch die Straßen schlenderte hab ich ein freies Konzert gefunden. Also ich weiß was ich heute Abend machen werde.
Die Bilder sind auf dem gestrigen Fotospaziergang entstanden. Die Farben von dem Kakibaum sind einfach der Hammer gewesen!
Einen schönen Sonntag euch allen!
Portraitsession with Valentina
Hello to you! i am sooo happy and thrilled about this new Photography blog! How cool is it that your here! I am very glad to start this off with the first beautiful Italian lady I ever photographed! I hope there are many to come. :-) And look at her! Valentina, you are so beautiful! Amazing. We meet through a friend and as she asked me to take some pictures I got overly excited! I totally loved her italian winter outfit and especially the little, knitted, black cape, which was done by her grandmother. Lovely, the cozy feel it gives. We had a great time walking through Siena together and capturing some beautiful pics for her.
